Black Mat Yoga x We Pop Bottles Virtual Vino & Vinyasa Event 9/19
There are very few things that I love as much as I love yoga. That list includes a glass (or bottle) of wine. White, red, rose, sparkling… I love them all the same. So when Marcella Thomkins, founder of We Pop Bottles, reached out to collaborate on a virtual event I naturally said “cheers!”
Marcella Thompkins is a Black and Mexican, WSET-certified wine marketing professional who has worked in the industry since 2014. Talking with her and checking out the We Pop Bottles Website, the synergies between us were super clear. In her about me section of the website, she writes “I often felt alone and uncomfortable at wineries and wine industry events, even after my years of experience and achieving a wine certification. I thought to myself, if this is how I feel, how must other POC feel in wine spaces?”
Sound familiar?
By featuring Wine makers/brands and other businesses of color, We Pop Bottles has been creating a safe and welcoming space for people of color to enjoy and learn about wine since February 2020.
I’m so excited to partner with We Pop Bottles on Saturday, September 19th for the inaugural Virtual Vino & Vinyasa experience. I’ll be leading a 30 minute gentle Vinyasa class that will certainly get you in the mood for good vibes and good vino. After class, I’m joining the tasting that features wine from the good people of Grand Cata, a Latino-owned wine shop based in Washington D.C. While the yoga, wine chat, and good vibes are included in your ticket price, the wine is not. Please visit the website to purchase 2-3 wines of your choice. Grand Cata also sells beer and spirits, if you prefer either of those. If the wine won’t make it to you by the event, or if wine shipping laws are strict in your state, sip on whatever you’ve got and join the convo!
And when I say synergy, I mean it. It wouldn’t be a Black Mat event if there wasn’t an element of philanthropy. We Pop Bottles has dedicated a portion of the proceeds of this event will be to The Sentencing Project. Founded in 1986, The Sentencing Project works for a fair and effective U.S. criminal justice system by promoting reforms in sentencing policy, addressing unjust racial disparities and practices, and advocating for alternatives to incarceration.
Follow Marcella at @WePopBottles and @Grand Cata, subscribe to their mailing lists, and register for the event on 9/19!
See y'all on the mat!
